Proposals debated in the House on 27 January sought to address online harms beyond unauthorised access to computer systems. JIS reported that the Cybercrimes amendment package included non-consensual intimate-image publication, including generated or fabricated content.

The minister described a broader meaning of publication and proposed protections for children, alongside specified defences for legitimate activities. Another proposed provision targeted devices, data and keys designed or adapted primarily for cyber offences, with intent and lawful-justification qualifications.

Debate was suspended after the initial discussion. This historical account identifies the proposed changes; it does not establish which wording ultimately passed, when any amendment commenced, or the offence applicable to a particular post or message.

Historical parliamentary development reported by JIS and rechecked at the source. This report does not verify the final Act, assent, commencement, subsequent amendments or present obligations; the named stage is not a statement that the proposal remains at that stage today.
