Demerit rollout was delayed after consultation, despite older October notices
A later government update superseded the previously announced 1 October implementation timetable.
Motorists should not treat the older October rollout announcement as the last word on Jamaica’s demerit programme. In a 4 September update, reported by JIS on 7 September, the Transport Minister said implementation had been delayed following consultation.
The government was reviewing traffic-ticket backlogs, legislative and regulatory amendments, and public-awareness arrangements. A task force’s recommendations were to go through further review and Cabinet consideration. The account did not supply a replacement commencement date.
Earlier official material had named 1 October and a September payment window. The later postponement is a reason to check chronology carefully; it is not proof that outstanding tickets disappeared or that motorists were excused from existing traffic rules.
Both older official explainer and later postponement report reviewed. This article records the September change; it does not certify the programme’s status on every later date or calculate a driver’s points. No replacement instrument verified.
