October’s passage linked domestic dispute resolution with international mediated settlements.

The Senate passed the Mediation Act measure on 23 October, according to JIS. The package was presented as a standalone framework for mediation practice and the registration, licensing and regulation of mediators.

The minister also said it would give effect to the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation. That places cross-border settlements alongside the domestic aim of resolving suitable disputes through agreed outcomes.

Parliamentary passage and practical enforceability are separate questions. This report does not establish assent, commencement, licensing arrangements or whether any particular settlement qualifies under the final statutory scheme.

Historical parliamentary development reported by JIS and rechecked at the source. This report does not verify the final Act, assent, commencement, subsequent amendments or present obligations; the named stage is not a statement that the proposal remains at that stage today.
