Privy Council refuses Verticast’s security-for-costs appeal bid
The media company’s proposed challenge to a cash-security order has stopped at the permission stage.
The Privy Council refused Verticast permission to appeal on 14 October 2026. Its proposed challenge concerned whether illiquid shares could replace cash as security for legal costs.
Verticast’s underlying claim alleged anti-competitive conduct by Jamaican telecommunications operators. When Digicel sought security, Verticast offered shares in CVM Television. The Jamaican judge rejected them as illiquid and ordered security; the claim was subsequently struck out.
The official case summary distinguishes that costs dispute from the Court of Appeal’s grant of leave to challenge the scope of the strike-out against other defendants. The permission refusal should therefore not be reported as resolving every part of the litigation.
Based on the official case page and permission entry; no reasoned Privy Council judgment is reported here.
