July wage orders lift the reported weekly floor to J$17,000
The government account identifies both a House approval date and an express effective date for the 2026 adjustment.
The national minimum wage and the industrial security-guard minimum were reported to rise from J$16,000 to J$17,000 for a 40-hour week from 1 July. JIS’s account says the House approved the two amendment orders on 23 June.
The report also identifies corresponding hourly, overtime and double-time changes, while stating that existing security-guard allowances and benefits remain in place. The weekly headline therefore cannot safely substitute for checking every component of a worker’s pay.
The Labour Minister described the minimum as a floor and linked compliance to inspection and enforcement. The reported effective date is stronger evidence than a policy promise, but payroll advice still requires the actual orders, the worker’s category and the applicable working arrangement.
Complete official report reviewed. Effective date and rates are attributed to JIS’s report of the orders; signed/gazetted instruments were not independently obtained. No later rate change verified.
